Difference Between Crystal and Coherence

Crystal vs Coherence

Crystal and coherence are the new features of Parallels Desktop. When talking of these two features, people often get confused. Most of the people get confused of which one to choose and which one is better. Though crystal and coherence modes look similar, both of them have their own specifications.

Crystal mode is a modified version of coherence mode. When talking of crystals, they provide a higher level of integration between the guest and the host operating systems than the coherence mode. Unlike the coherence mode, the crystal mode has all the icons, desktop controls and menus hidden except for Parallels icon in the Windows Applications folder in Dock and Mac number menu bar.

Coherence mode can be called as a caching and distributed data management service. The coherence mode does not have an application window. In Mac number menu bar, Coherence does not appear in the Windows tray icons. It also comprises very transparent soft re-start and network-level fault tolerance.

Unlike the coherence, Parallels is virtually not visible in crystals. In case you are having Windows, the start menu can be accessed through the folder on the dock while using crystals. Another thing is that while using crystals, one can run the Windows applications as well as Mac applications.

Coherence comes with less intergartion when compared to crystals. In coherence mode, the user can run applications simultaneously.

In crystal mode, one can go to another level by doing away completely with the Parallels application and putting all the needed things in Dock and Mac menu bars.
