Difference Between Abacus and Computer
Abacus vs Computer
Is there any difference between computers and abacus? Yes there are differences between the two. But the fact is that computer has been shaped out of Abacus. One cannot in real words make out a difference between the two.
Abacus is an ancient method of counting. Though ancient, abacus is still in use and is being used to build mathematical skills in children. It was the arithmetic process of Abacus that led to the development of Computers. While abacus is an ancient calculating tool, Computers are modern tools, which performs many functions. The computers have become part and parcel of human beings.
Abacus can also be called as the oldest computer. Abacus uses beads and stones on wooden, metal or stone tablets. The computers use a different language for the calculations.
When taking of calculations, computers perform better than the abacus. The mathematical calcuations using the beeds can sometimes lead to errors as a slight deviation can change matters. But in computers, there is nothing to worry of errors as everything is done mechanically; you have to only give the right figures.
When talking in technical terms, computers contain automatic abacuses.
The origin of Abacus is atributed to China. But there is a contrioversy regarding the orgin of Abacus. It has also been traced to 300 B C, a time when it was used by the Babylonians. Regarding computers, there is no confusion. Charles Babbage is credited with developing the first computers.
In real sense, there is no difference between abacus and computer. They are really interrelated that makes it difficult to make them differentiate.

Do you know why the Chinese abacus is the type of abacus most often pointed out as the ancestor of the computer?
The Chinese abacus is commonly used for working in decimal, but it may be used as well for hexadecimal numbers. Note that when all beads along a rod are set then the sum of bead values would exactly be equal to 15 or F.
