Difference Between Evening and Afternoon
Evening vs Afternoon
Man’s life revolves around time. Every moment of his life is defined by how he uses the time that he is given. From the time he wakes up in the morning until the time that he retires in the evening, his life is marked by time.
Time is important for the proper functioning of society and the world. It is one of the seven fundamental physical quantities of the International System of Units (SI) and is measured with the use of watches and clocks.
Different locations experience a difference in time because the elliptical Earth revolves around the sun and turns on its axis. It is also because of this that people get confused as to what time of day marks the morning, afternoon, evening, and night.
Morning is the time when the sun rises, the moment when darkness turns to light, marked by the dawn of a new day. It comes after the night which is the time that is marked by darkness, the time when people rest and retire.
Afternoon is defined as the time of day that is between noon and evening. It is distinct from the term “after noon” or “post meridiem” (p.m.) in Latin which is used in the 12-hour clock referring to the time from noon to midnight.
It comes a second after 12:00 o’clock noon and lasts until around 5:30 to 6:00 o’clock p.m. Its end is marked by the closing of the standard business day, the time when people go home from work or school and prepare for dinner.
People usually prepare for the evening meal and bedtime during this time. The sunset officially ushers its end and paves the way for the evening which is the time when people experience the slow fading of the light.
“Evening” is defined as the time of day that is marked by the decrease of daylight. It is the period between afternoon, which is the time when the sun starts to set, and night, which is the time when most people have their evening meals and bedtime.
It is marked by twilight or dusk when light slowly fades to make way for the darkness that comes with the night. It is observed for at least two hours from around 5:30 to 6:00 o’clock p.m. when the standard business day closes, to 8:00 o’clock p.m. when people retire for the day.
