Gluten intolerance, otherwhise known as gluten sensitivity, is a condition where people have an intolerance to gluten. It is a broad term that is used for all types of sensitivity or intolerance to gluten. Celiac disease is the first kind of gluten intolerance, which was diagnosed as early as the 1940s. Celiac disease is an inflammation of the upper part of the small intestines, which is mainly caused by gluten intolerance.
About 15 per cent of the people around the world suffer from gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivity whereas only one percent of the people are known to be diagnosed with Celiac disease. But the real fact is that celiac disease is not that much diagnosed, which means that most of the people are unaware that they have celiac disease.

In children, if celiac disease is not diagnosed eary, it could lead to behavioral problems, short stature and improper development.
Some of the symptoms associated with celiac disease include diarrhea, abdominal bloating, vomiting, pale stools, abdominal pain, constipation, anemia, anxiety, joint pain, tingling, extreme fatigue, sores in mouth, itchy skin and irregular periods. In the case of gluten sensitivity or gluten intolerance, the symptoms are the same.
