Difference Between Polysporin and Vaseline
Polysporin vs Vaseline
Polysporin and Vaseline are used for wounds and burns. Produced by different manufacturers, both the Polysporin and Vaseline are known to be effective in healing process. Though these two ointments are largely used, Polysporin is more used when compared to Vaseline.
A petroleum jelly, Vaseline is a product from Anglo-Dutch firm Unilever. An antibiotic ointment, Polysporin is manufactured by Johnson and Johnson.
Vaseline was initially produced by Chesebrough and it was in 1987 that Unilever took over the company. Though Vaseline has been promoted as an ointment for cuts, burns and scrapes, it is that this ointment does not have any medical effect. Well, Vaseline is quite effective in speeding up the process of healing of wounds as it seals off the bruises and cuts from the harmful bacteria. Â Moreover, Vaseline helps in keeping the area around the wound agile as this ointment seals off the area from moisturizers.
Apart from applying in the wounded area, Vaseline is also used in the manufacturing of skin lotions and cosmetics.
When compared to Vaseline, Polysporin is an antibiotic ointment. Unlike Vaseline, Polysporin helps to prevent infection and also aids in the speedy recovery. It has some medical affect which Vaseline does not have. Polysporin contains polymyxin B and Bacitracin, which helps in the speedy recovery of wounds.
Polysporin ointment is generally used for minor wounds, cuts, first degree burns and scrapes. As like Vaseline, this ointment also prevents the bacteria from growing. Moreover, it also helps in preventing the infection from spreading.
Though Polysporin and Vaseline are good for minor wounds and burns, one should have to contsult the doctor in case of major incidents. These ointments will not cure major cuts, wounds, scrapes and burns.

Where is your scientific support for claims that polysporin is better at preventing infection? All of the medical studies I have read say there is not difference, though the makers of polysporin spend lots of money suggesting there is a difference.
