Difference Between EHR and PHR
EHR vs PHR
The Electronic Health Record (EHR) and the Personal Health Record (PHR) are not the same in any aspect. Though the two are related to the collection of data, they have many differences.
In EHR, the hospital or the health care centre or the practitioner has control over
The documents. But in PHR, it is the individual who has the control over the documents.
IN EHR, all the data is completely documented electronically. On the other hand, the data is electronically and manually documented in PHR.
EHR is a complete data of the patients from a wide range of providers and created by the health practitioners. On the other hand, PHR is only related to the information needs of an individual created by him.
A PHR contains information about the symptoms, medicines taken, special diets, exercise programs and information of home monitoring devices. It also includes information like allergies, illnesses, hospitalisations, surgeries, vaccinations and
Lab results. On the contrary, EHR relates to the comprehensive view of a person’s health condition.
A PHR will not contain all the details pertaining to the tests, practitioners’ notes and other matters. On the other hand, the EHR contains all relevant aspects regarding the health of a patient.
PHR helps a person to be more alert in their health care. EHR helps the practitioners to evaluate a person’s overall medical conditions. EHR also helps a practitioner to give the best treatment and also to reduce errors while proving health care to patients.
As the individual handles all the data and he is the only person who has access to all the documents, it is less prone to misuse and theft. As many clinics or health care centre or practitioners handle EHR, malpractice can be committed easily.
