Difference Between Anxiety and Worry

Having problems is very common to us humans. This is inevitable. Without problems, life is boring. Our lives will not be that competitive, and life can be considered dull and lifeless. Most of all, we will not be the person we are right now without our problems in life. This is the plain reality about problems.

Problems make us sick in the long run. If we don’t know how to properly cope with these, then we are heading for a major disaster. Problems give us anxiety and worry. But before moving ahead with these, let’s determine the difference between “anxiety” and “worry.”

“Anxiety” is a state of worry, fear, or panic while “worry” is a normal response to the daily stresses in life. It can be abnormal, though, if it goes on for days or weeks. “Worry,” on the other hand, is much lighter than “anxiety.” We worry when things are awful, but anxiety can be either good or bad things in which our anxiety rises.

Anxiety has different classifications while worry does not have any classification. “Anxiety” is the medical term that is used by medical practitioners, and “worry” is the word people commonly use. Anxiety can be classified as mild, moderate, severe, and panic anxiety. These can be treated with anxiolytics.

When one says she or he is worried, it is usually for a while. Worry is usually short-term. It can only be for minutes, hours, or days. Anxiety, on the other hand, can be longer and can occur for up to months. When this happens, GAD can be diagnosed in a person. “GAD” is “generalized anxiety disorder” in which anxiety has occurred for more than six months.

There are ways in which we can manage worry or anxiety. One is through relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and exercise. Another is through one’s spirituality in which most people are focused on praying, going to mass, reading inspirational books, and a lot more. By talking to our special loved ones, we can also allay our worry and anxiety.

Worry and anxiety are part of our lives, but we should not let these block our potential. We should always be positive thinkers.

Summary:

1. “Anxiety” is a state of worry, fear, or panic while “worry” is a normal response to daily stresses in life. It can be abnormal, though, if it goes on for days or weeks. “Worry,” on the other hand, is much lighter than “anxiety.”
2. Worry is usually short-term. It can only be for minutes, hours, or days. Anxiety, on the other hand, can be longer and can occur for up to months.
3. Anxiety can be treated with anxiolytics which are medications for it while worry does not involve any treatment since it just temporary or sudden.
