Difference Between Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 vs 10.1
The Galaxy Tab from Samsung is probably the most well-known tablet device, aside from the iPad of course, and has undergone quite a number of changes. The second and latest tablet in the line-up is the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which will soon be joined by the Tab 8.9. Obviously, the main difference between the two is the size of the screen. However, the Tab 8.9 still retains the 800×1280 resolution of the Tab 10.1 despite losing over a diagonal inch in screen realty; therefore, achieving a higher pixel-per-inch ratio. The reduction in screen size also means that the overall dimensions of the Tab 8.9 are smaller than the Tab 10.1 along with its weight. The reduction makes it more comfortable to hold even with one hand.
It seemed like Samsung was taking a hit-and-miss approach with the Galaxy Tab. Starting off with the quite small Tab which measured seven inches. Complaints that the screen was too small and it wasn’t much bigger from a typical phone urged Samsung to develop the Tab 10.1. The Tab 8.9 seems to hit the sweet spot in terms of size as many reviewers are praising it left and right.
Aside from getting it right on the size, the Tab 8.9 also returns a few features that were available in the first Tab but were inexplicably removed in the Tab 10.1. The first is the ability to call and text. This is not really a hardware issue as the Tab 10.1 has a cellular radio that is used for data connectivity only. The second is the microSD slot. Given that the Tab 10.1 already has an ample amount of memory, with models having 16, 32, or 64GB of memory, having a microSD card slot is still very convenient for expanding your storage space or even just for transferring files.
All in all, the Tab 8.9 seems to be a step in the right direction for Samsung. It is yet to be known if it will offer Apple’s iPad the long-awaited competition. Maybe we will see when it is released sometime in the third quarter of 2011.
Summary:
1.The Tab 8.9 has a smaller screen than the 10.1.
2.The Tab 8.9 is smaller and lighter than the 10.1.
3.The Tab 8.9 can do regular calls and texts while the 10.1 cannot.
4.The Tab 8.9 has a microSD card slot while the 10.1 doesn’t.
