HTC produces a wide number of smartphones that very different specs to suite different needs. Two of these smartphones are the Evo Shift 4G and the Inspire 4G. The most important difference between the Evo Shift 4G and the Inspire 4G is the network that they are compatible with. The Inspire 4G is a GSM phone, which means that it is compatible with the majority of the world’s networks. On the other hand, the Evo Shift 4G is a CDMA phone and it will only work in most parts of North America. This is not that important unless you will be going overseas and use roaming features.
The Evo Shift 4G has a slide-out keyboard that serves to hasten text input. Text entry on touchscreen’s like that on the Inspire 4G may be sufficient for short messages and dialing phone numbers. But the mistakes will quickly pile up if you attempt to type out long emails. On its defense, the Inspire 4G features a much larger 4.3 inch screen compared to the 3.6 inch screen on the Evo Shift 4G. This gives you much bigger keys on-screen and helps you reduce typing errors.
The Evo Shift 4G has a 5 megapixel camera, which seems to be the standard for modern smartphones. The Inspire 4G takes it a step further by utilizing an 8 megapixel camera for larger or finer images. The Inspire 4G also has a front facing camera for video calling and taking vanity shots. The Evo Shift 4G lacks a front facing camera, thus it cannot be easily used for video calling.
Powering it all is the processor. In this regard, the Inspire 4G wins over the Evo Shift 4G even if they both use Qualcomm chipsets. The Inspire 4G is equipped with the newer and faster MSM8255 chipset clocked at 1Ghz. The MSM7630 of the Evo Shift 4G is clocked 20% slower at just 800Mhz.
