Differences Between the Xbox and the DBox2

Xbox vs DBox2

Xbox and DBox2 confuse people because they have similar names involving the word “box.” People have known about Xbox or its successors for some time now so it’s very natural. The main difference between Xbox and DBox2 is that Xbox is a gaming console and DBox2 is a set-top box for digital cable TV and DVB satellite. A set-top box is actually a receiver decoder for digital television.

Xbox

Xbox is a gaming console which was developed by Microsoft. It is a sixth-generation video game. It was launched in 2001 in America and later in Japan and Europe and Australia in 2002. It was developed to compete with PlayStation developed by Sony. Four engineers; Seamus Blackley, Kevin Bachus, Otto Berkes, and Ted Hase developed the Xbox. It had a hard drive which was built in. The hard drive was used to store and save Xbox Live contents which could be downloaded. The main advantage of a built-in hard drive was that no separate memory card was required anymore. Music could also be ripped from CDs and stored. Xbox was discontinued in 2005 starting from Japan and later in Europe and America. The warranty Xboxes were replaced by Xbox 360 for faulty consoles. Xbox 360 is the successor of Xbox.

DBox2

DBox2 is an integrated receiver decoder for digital TV and DVB satellite. They were used with pay channels. Its predecessor was the DBox. It was developed by DF1 of Kirch Group, a German digital TV provider, which was merged later with Premiere. The hardware for DBox2 was developed by Nokia and later by Philips and Sagem. It is especially popular with people who do not want to pay for the services as it facilitates the sharing of cards. The software is developed by a third party thus there is no official endorsement. It is supported by unofficial Websites. It does not have any built-in hard drive for internal storage. To facilitate storage, modules have become available for attaching SATA and IDE hard drives and SD and MMC memory cards. The DBox2 can support the operating system of Linux.
