Difference Between Nikon Coolpix L105 and L120

Nikon Coolpix L105 vs L120

The Nikon Coolpix L105 and L120 are two camera models that use standard AA batteries instead of the usual battery packs used by other cameras. The main difference between the Coolpix L105 and L120 is the resolution of their sensors. While the L105 is equipped with just a 12 megapixel sensor, the L120 has a 14 megapixel sensor. Not really that huge of an improvement but still significant, especially when you want to capture the small details.

Another major difference between the L105 and the L120 is in the optics they employ. The optics of the L105 can manage to zoom up to 15X, which is far better than what you can already achieve on other point and shoot cameras. But the L120 bests the L105 by achieving up to 21X zoom factor. This great for outdoor photography where your subject may not be as close as you would like. Having greater zoom capability gives you more freedom on shooting your subjects.

Both the L105 and L120 rely on an LCD screen rather than a viewfinder. Although both their LCDs are of the same size, the L120’s is better because it has a higher resolution compared to that of the L105. It has roughly three times the pixel count, giving you a better view of the images you took. This does apply when you are framing your subject but is more noticeable when you are reviewing photos as you would not need to zoom in too much to see the details.

There are also a couple of minor differences between the L105 and the L120. The first is the type of memory cards they take. Both the L105 and L120 can take SD and SDHC memory cards, but only the latter is able to accept higher capacity SDXC memory cards. The second is in the ports. Only the L120 has an HDMI port, which you can use to connect to HDTVs to clearly show photos and videos directly. The L105 only has NTSC/PAL ports that result in a lower image quality when shown on any TV.

Summary:

  1. The L120 has a higher resolution sensor than the L105
  2. The L120 has greater optical zoom than the L105
  3. The L120 has a higher resolution display than the L105
  4. The L120 takes SDXC memory cards while the L105 does not
  5. The L120 has an HDMI port while the L105 does not
