Difference Between Canon HF10 and Canon HF100
Canon HF10 and HF100 are AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) format Flash Memory camcorders. They both have all the standard features for camcorders including, of course, the Canon exclusive features such as: 3.3 Megapixel Full HD CMOS Sensor, DIGIC DV II Image Processor, SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization, Instant AF (Auto Focus) and 2.7″ Multi-Angle Vivid Widescreen LCD. They, as well, have the same physical features, the reason why they are often confused with each other.
The key difference between these two camcorders is that the canon HF10 has a dual flash memory. It has a dual memory capability which allows you to capture video on both camcorder’s internal 16 GB Flash Memory as well as onto SDHC Memory Card. The video stored in the internal memory can also be copied into the memory card. You can also transfer the still images from SDHC card into the internal memory. And if you want to further increase the video storage of your HF10, you can use higher capacity memory cards.
A lot of people might have not noticed but these two have a slight difference with power consumption. Hf10 consumes 3.9 watts during SP (standard-play) mode while HF100 consumes 4.0 watts during SP mode. On the other hand, because HF10 uses 16 GB internal flash drive, its maximum recording time can go up to 6 hours and 5 minutes on LP (long-play) mode and 4 hours and 45 minutes on SP mode while HF100, having 8 GB SDHC card, can only go up to 3 hours on LP mode and 2 hours and 20 minutes on SP mode.
For price variation, HF100 is normally expected to be cheaper than HF10 with a dual memory capability. HF100 would cost about $799 while HF10 would cost about $999. HF100 has a classier black color while HF10 has black and silver. But our personal taste should matter the least. At the end of the day, quality and performance would still be our priority. These two products were released April of 2008 but most people presume that HF10 is the upgraded version of HF100.
