Difference Between Olive Oil and Canola Oil

olive_oilOlive Oil vs Canola Oil

Olive oil, also called ìliquid of goldî, is fruit oil produced by grinding olives and extracting the oil by mechanical or chemical means. It has been more than mere food to people but also medicinal and sometimes considered magical because of its many uses and health benefits. It contains monounsaturated fats which are good fats that can be advantageous for the health. Olive oil has high levels of good fats compared to other types of oil available in the market.

Conversely, Canola oil is produced by extraction from specially hybridized rapeseed plants. Canola is the acronym of ìCanadian Oil, Low Acidî. It is said that canola oil is fit for human consumption. However its main source, the rapeseed plants, contains erucic acid which is poisonous to living things especially humans. Thus, claiming it to be fit for human consumption is somewhat devious as it also contains polyunsaturated fats which are not necessarily bad but better less of it than more.

Canola oil is basically rapeseed and it should be noted that rapeseed oil is used as an insect repellant and used for light industries. That fact is clear enough for us to think twice before picking up a bottle of canola oil in the market. Nowadays, it is important to pay attention to our diets. Incredibly, even the type of oil we consume can endanger our health without even noticing it.

Olive oil is the only vegetable oil that has numerous health benefits and it is not just a mere ingredient in our recipes. It is an excellent cancer inhibitor; it can control blood sugar and lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke. Using olive oil instead of canola oil may lead you to a healthier and fitter body.

When it comes to price comparison between olive and canola oils, canola oil costs less than olive oil, the very reason why canola is fast flowing in the market today in contrast to olive oilís market status. Price is perhaps the only advantage of canola oil against olive oil. Olive oil may be a bit expensive but the benefits far outweigh its cost. And there is nothing more valuable than our health!

Summary:
1. Olive oil contains high level of monounsaturated fats which is are good fats while canola oil contains erucic acid that can be harmful.
2. Canola oil is essentially rapeseed oil which is not fit for human consumption while olive oil is pro-health oil.
3. Olive oil is not used as an ingredient in our recipes but has medicinal purposes as well. The Canola oil, on the other hand, lacks this quality.
4. Canola oil may cost less than olive oil but the latterís beneficial qualities are great equalizers.
