Difference Between Ham and Canadian Bacon
Ham vs Canadian Bacon
Ham and Canadian bacon are similar in taste, texture, and appearance. However, ham and Canadian bacon have many differences between them.
Canadian bacon is gotten from the loin cut that runs along the back of the pig whereas ham is gotten from the primal cut that includes the leg, butt, and shank. Ham is gotten in diced chunks, slices, and whole form. On the other hand, Canadian bacon is gotten in sliced form only.
When ham contains honey or sugar, Canadian bacon does not contain any of these. Now looking at the calorie content, the Canadian bacon contains fewer calories than ham. Moreover, Canadian bacon is lower in carbohydrates and cholesterol than ham. Canadian bacon also has more protein content than ham. Meanwhile, ham contains more sodium than Canadian bacon. Unlike Canadian bacon, ham contains more Vitamin C and calcium.
When comparing the fat content, there is only a light difference between Canadian bacon and ham. Canadian Bacon contains slightly more saturated fat than ham.
Ham is generally eaten during lunch or dinner whereas Canadian bacon is eaten during breakfast.
Talking more about Canadian bacon, it is salted and cured meat just like traditional bacon in the United States whereas it is cured and treated in a different way in Canada and the UK. Canadian bacon is not served hard but only served when soft and juicy. If left to harden, the Canadian bacon would be tasteless and dry.

Not sure you should ever use the word gotten again.
I second that! To the invisible boatmobile with that word!
Should have said taken. Also, if it looks, smells, and tastes like ham… its ham. Its certainly not bacon. They throw the word bacon in the mud comparing that cured ham to my delicious bacon. Canada sucks.
My day has just gotten a whole lot funnier 🙂
In Canada your version of “canadian bacon” doesn’t exist. We have smoked bacon which is the same as the bacon you are familiar with and “peameal bacon” which is a cured pork product with a peameal coating on the outside. Only the U.S. has “Canadian Bacon”.
You can get Canadian bacon in whole(unsliced) form.
How am I to believe any truth to this article? I gotten a headache from reading this. Yahoo should gotten you as a writer
I’m never going to use the word gotten again after reading this article. Thank you.
Joe, no disrespect, at the risk of sounding ignorant wouldn’t Canadian bacon in its whole form simply be pork loin?
