Difference Between Chipotle Powder and Chili Powder

Although both are pretty popular, they have differences.

Popular in Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes, this is a chili powder that is derived from dried and smoked jalapeno peppers. As a result, it is hotter. It also has a smoky and earthy taste as a result of the smoking process.

This is a seasoning powder made of chili powder and other spices such as cumin powder, garlic powder and oregano. The chili type used varies based on the brand. However, among the most common chili used to make chili powder is cayenne, Chipotle, pasilla, Aleppo and ancho. Chili powder has a pungent and spicy taste due to the spices blend. It’s common in Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, American, Indian and Thai cuisines.

Chipotle has more heat in comparison to Chili powder as a result of the mixture with other spices. 

Taste

Chipotle powder has a smoky and earthy taste as a result of the smoking process. On the other hand, chili powder has a pungent and spicy taste due to the spices blend.
