Difference Between Cappuccino and Latte
Cappuccino vs Latte
Cappuccino and Latte are Italian ways of preparing coffee with steamed milk. Both types of coffee are prepared in different ways which results in a noticeable difference in their taste.
Cappuccino is a coffee prepared with espresso and steamed milk that is frothed to produce the rich foam. Though a Latte is also prepared in almost the same manner, it has more frothed milk. Lattes are also prepared in another way using Mocha, which is brewed and then poured into hot milk.
Cappuccinos are widely preferred and are available in restaurants the world over. One reason for the popularity of the Cappuccino over the Latte is that is is cheaper. Lattes are not available in all restaurants and are generally found only in specialty coffee shops. As Lattes are generally less widely available, you should check to see if the restaurant you are dining in makes this special coffee. In the case of Cappuccinos however, they are quite popular and therefore likely to be available.
For Cappuccinos, the ratio between steamed milk and milk foam is the same. This ratio is normally achieved when free pouring milk soon after it has been steamed. In free pouring, there is no chance for the foam and the milk to get separated. Cappuccino comes in various forms like wet, dry, semi-wet, bone dry and semi-dry. A latte has more of the foam than the milk, however, there are ‘no foam Latte’ drinks.
A Cappuccino has a stronger taste than the Latte. Different cups are also used for serving Cappuccinos versus Lattes. A seven or eight ounce cup is normally used to serve a Latte whereas a six to seven ounce porcelain cup is used to serve Cappuccino.
