Civic is developed and manufactured by Honda, which is the second largest automobile company in Japan. The Civic is considered to be one of the most popular models of compact cars on the market today. On the other hand, the Lancer is a family car built by Mitsubishi Motors, which is the sixth largest automaker in Japan. The Mitsubishi Lancer was introduced in 1973, and between 1973 and 2008, over six million of these cars have been sold.

The Honda Civic has been known, from its first generation, for its reputation of being fuel-efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly. The Mitsubishi Lancer is known for having the most success in rallies, which is a proven fact, and remains to be true even to this day. Later models of the Honda Civic are better known for their performance and sporty features. As of 2008, the Civic has been the top-selling car in Canada for eleven straight years. The Mitsubishi Lancer was originally developed with four different body styles ‘“ 2-door sedan, 4-door sedan, 2-door hardtop coupe, and a rarely seen 5-door station wagon.

Both the Honda Civic and the Mitsubishi Lancer are currently in their eighth generation. The latest Civic was released in 2006, and the latest Lancer was introduced in 2007. The new Lancer of 2007 is based on the sport-back model concept, that was released in 2005. The current Honda Civic models are the FN2, FD2, FG2 and the FA5. The 2009 generation received a minor facelift that includes a slight redesign to the front and rear of the vehicle.

The Honda Civic’s engine is a 1.8L, i-VTEC, compared to the engine of the Mitsubishi Lancer, which is a MIVEC, starting from a 2.0L to a 2.4L.

The latest Honda Civic Sedan has a fuel tank with a capacity of 13.2 gallons, and the Mitsubishi Lancers have fuel tanks which range from 14.5 to 15.3 gallons. A 5-speed Civic is capable of achieving 25 mpg on city roads, while the Lancer is expected to achieve only 22 mpg.
