Subaru Impreza WRX vs WRX STI
The Subaru Impreza WRX has an STI version that was created to provide a sporty alternative to the WRX. Although there are quite a number of differences between the WRX and the STI, let’s look at the most important. Despite having the same 2.5L engine, the STI is capable of producing a lot more power than the WRX. The STI is able to produce 305 horsepower at 6000 rpm compared to the 265 of the WRX. The same is also true when it comes to torque, producing 290 lb-ft compared to the WRX’s 244 lb-ft. The STI is able to do this because of its high crossflow turbocharger.
To further improve engine performance, the STI is also equipped with the SI-DRIVE system not found on the WRX. SI-DRIVE (Subaru Intelligent Drive) provides three modes of vehicle performance through modifications in how the ECU behaves. This is also coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission, thus achieving much higher speeds than with the 5-speed manual transmission of the WRX.
Other aspects of the STI that affects driving have also been improved. The STI uses a high performance suspension system with inverted struts and aluminum alloy lower L-arms. Of course, with the greater speed that can be achieved by the STI, you also need the ability to stop quickly. For this, STI uses improved Brembo disc brakes with super sport ABS and bigger discs in both the front and rear. This, when combined with the wider tires of the STI that provide better grip with the road, gives it a shorter stopping distance.
To improve visibility at night, the STI is equipped with high intensity discharge or HID lights. HID lights are significantly brighter than the halogen lights that are installed on the WRX. There are also a lot more differences between the WRX and the STI, especially in the interior where you get more premium materials like leather seats and better gauges.

1.The STI produces more horsepower than the WRX
