Difference Between Dodge Challenger SRT8 and RT
Dodge Challenger SRT8 vs RT
The Dodge Challenger is one of the sporty automobiles dubbed as a pony car. The 2012 model of the Challenger comes in a variety of trim packages that include the RT and SRT8 packages. The SRT8 trim costs significantly more than the RT trim and thus has a number of upgrades over it. The main difference between the SRT8 and the RT is the larger engine of the former. With a 6.4L engine, the SRT8 is able to produce close to 100 horsepower than the 5.7L engine of the RT. More horsepower means greater acceleration and increased speed.
When it comes to the exterior, there are a couple of notable differences between the SRT8 and the RT. The first is the notably larger rims installed in the SRT8. While the RT sported 18-inch rims, the SRT8 has 20-inch rims. The rims of the SRT8 are also wider, giving it significantly more traction than the RT which is quite advantageous given the significant increase in power. The second is the use of high-intensity discharge or HID lamps for the headlights. These lights are significantly brighter than the halogen lights you would find on the RT.
The differences between the SRT8 and the RT do not end outside the vehicle as there are also a number of differences inside the vehicles. You would quickly notice that the seats of the SRT8 are covered with leather, unlike that of the RT, which are covered with cloth. The seats of the SRT8 are also heated making it much more comfortable on those cold winter nights.
The SRT8 also has a couple of nice additions to its electronics. The first is a system of parking sensors that removes most of the guesswork out of parking. It alerts the driver to the proximity of objects that may not be visible to him. Another addition is a HomeLink garage door transmitter. If you have a compatible controller connected to your garage door, then you can open the garage door without leaving your SRT8.
Summary:
1.The SRT8 has a 6.4L engine while the RT has a 5.7L engine.
2.The SRT8 has considerably more horsepower than the RT.
3.The SRT8 has larger rims than the RT.
4.The SRT8 has HID headlights while the RT has halogen headlights.
5.The SRT8 has leather seats while the RT has cloth seats.
6.The SRT8 has heated seats while the RT doesn’t.
7.The SRT8 is equipped with a parking sensor and a garage door transmitter while the RT doesn’t.

Thanks for the info brother! 🙂
My rt has everything you just said it’s has the 6.4 the leather seats heated seats the wide 20 inch rims and I bought it new
Me too – mine has all but the engine.
Your RT isn’t an RT if it has a 6.4L engine that’s impossible. All RTs have a 5.7L no matter how upgraded you buy them. if you have a 6.4L its a SRT
Man, the person that wrote this article is an idiot and doesn’t even know any basic information about a charger
Of course you don’t know any basic information on a Charger, considering it is a paper on CHALLENGERS!
duh
Same!
Sorry alvin you have been proven wrong once again you really don’t know these cars to well… rt had an option called the Scat Pack which did offer the same engine as an SRT8 6.4 392 cubic inches
I’m sure this is old news, but I just rented the Challenger R/T with the SCAT package from Budget in Atlanta. Nice ride…
Woow nice
The scat pack is actually an SRT. It has a bigger engine than the Hellcat, keeping it as an SRT not RT
I have scat pack but it says rt on car 2012. Is it an rt or srt???? Either way i love it♥️
Well that’s where you’re wrong. Its an r/t powered by srt
If you’re talking about The RT SCAT PACK, still a 392, then the differences are there, but it’s lacking the features, but has the engine of the SRT, being the 6.4 which as an RT, Is just the 5.7
This the most confusing conversation I’ve read in a min. Did the 392 come with stock Brembos?
I’m getting my rt in a few weeks and it has everything except me in it, I can’t wait. Thanks guys.
Any car that says srt on it was engineered by a group called specialized racing team. Challengers for instance go srt8 ,srt hellcat and srt demon. Other challengers are sxt, gt rt, and rt scat pack which an rt with upgraded engine. The challenger has borrowed from srt to upgrade . Still not an srt. Many differences the author didn’t mention.
I have Leather in my RT and half cloth half leather in my Daytona. My rt did not have heated seats but my Daytona does.
I have a R/T and it has leather seats and heated seats so some of the information given is incorrect. And it’s all factory…
In 2016 there was a SRT and a SRT Hellcat Challenger
I had a 2016 SRT Challenger 6 speed. You can get the same engine and transmission set up in some lower levels like RT,TA, Scatpac but the seats, stereo, computer etc. will always be better in the SRT
I sold the SRT and bought a SRE Hellcat
SRT Hellcat
MY surgeon buddy has an 8.0litre V10 Viper so all you Charger and challenger owners or wishers for can just drool even if YOUR HORSEPOWER IS SOMETIMES 800 OR SO AND THUS HIGHER!!!!!
