UC and Cal State
UC, or University of California, and Cal State, or California State University, both are different institutional systems that deal with higher education. When looking at UC and Cal State, they are different in many ways, like in their education systems, management and accommodation of students.
When talking about the campuses, the Cal state comes with more campuses than the UC. One of the main differences that can be seen is that certain UC individual campuses have larger budgets than the entire Cal State, as they put more emphasis on reserch.
When comparing their tuition fees, the UC tuition fees is more than of the Cal State’s tuition fees. Well, the tuition cost at Cal State is about half of the fees for UC.
When talking about the heads of the campuses, it is the Presidents that head the Cal State, whereas it is the chancellors who head the UC campuses.
Moreover, the Cal State is more liberal in accommodating students than the UC. Unlike the UC, The Cal State is more liberal and accommodative to the older students, and they offer evening courses and even online courses. Well, the admission procedure for Cal State is less stringent when compared to the admission for UC. Where the Cal State accepts applicants from the top one third of high school graduates in California, the UC accepts applicants from the top one eighth.
Coming to the academics, the UC program is theory oriented, and based on more research. On the other hand, Cal State is based on more practical things. Basically, Cal State was created originally as a teaching college. It can also be said that the Cal State has a more career-oriented approach than UC.
UC has a more statewide reputation when compared to the local reputation of the Cal State. Well, the UC campuses have a better reputation than the Cal State campuses.
