NSA is National Security Agency and CIA is Central Intelligence Agency. Both the NSA and the CIA are federal agencies of the U.S. that deal with the security, law enforcement, and intelligence of the country.
The CIA is mainly associated with gathering information internationally that is of relevance to the United States. The CIA operates across the world through various agents who send the information to its headquarters situated in Langley, Virginia. The CIA agents most often cooperate with other international agencies for collecting relevant information.
The NSA is not very much understood. The main mission of the NSA is information assurance. This means that the NSA is responsible for breaking foreign intelligence codes through secured computer systems, encryption, and access control. The NSA works in combination with the Central Security Service. The NSA deals with data processing, generating encryption keys to U.S. information, and decrypting foreign intelligence. NSA agents mainly sit in the headquarters that is based in Fort Meade, Maryland.
The CIA was formed on September 18th, 1947, and the NSA was formed on
November 4th, 1962.
The NSA is divided into two missions: Signals Intelligence Directorate (SID) and
Information Assurance Directorate (IAD). The SID creates foreign signals intelligence, and the IAD protects the information systems of America.
The CIA has four major directorates: the Directorate of Intelligence, National Clandestine Service, Directorate of Support, and Directorate of Science and Technology.
