Difference Between Calvary chapel and Methodist church
Calvary chapel vs Methodist church
Calvary Chapel is an evangelical fellowship of Christian churches, which started in Southern California. While Methodist church is a movement of the protestant Christians.
One of the main differences between Cavalry chapel and Methodist church is that the former has its origin in the 20th century and the latter’s origin traces back to the 18th century.
Calvary chapel has its origin in Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, where Chuck Smith was a pastor. In 1968, he broke away from the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel denomination to form the Calvary chapel. When it was in California that Calvary Chapel originated, the Methodist church has its origin in Epworth, North Lincolnshire. The Methodist church began as a movement within the Church of England, which had John Wesley and his brother Charles as the foremost leaders. This group of believers focussed on the study of Bible and had a methodical approach to Christian living and scriptures.
While the Methodists had an Arminian view, the cavalry chapel believed in the doctrines of evangelic Christianity. The Methodist church opposes determinism of absolute predestination, which differentiates it from Calvary chapel. The Calvary chapel has identified itself as standing in between Pentecostalism and fundamentalism.
In issues related to controversial theologies, the Cavalry church always keeps a balance. They try to avoid terminologies, arguments and conclusions that are not clearly presented in the Bible. But the Methodist church only has a methodical approach to the study of bible.
While the Methodist church believes that personal salvation is related to the service of the world, the Calvary church believes that the salvation of a man completely lies in the hands of the God. They believe it is God who decides on salvation.
The Calvary Chapel mostly uses a Pastor system, which is also referred to as the “Moses” model. The Methodist church on the other hand uses a system identical to other churches.
In cavalry church, contemporary Christian music is used for worship, which is not that popular among the Methodists.
