Difference Between Amusement Park and Theme Park

Amusement Park vs Theme Park

Amusement and Theme parks are one and the same, with only the addition of a theme in the theme parks. Both these parks provide outdoor amusement, entertainment and rides.  For most people, both amusement and theme parks are the same with hardly any difference.

As stated above, there is only one difference between amusement and theme parks and that is the fact that theme parks are built around specific themes. For example Disney world is based on the movie theme while Sea world is based on a sea theme. So a theme park can be said to be an amusement park that has a theme to it.

While theme parks have a central idea, amusement parks do not. While the theme parks have a unified theme, the amusements parks have none, and may be considered to have contradictory themes, if at all. The theme parks may also be arranged in such a way that they tell a distinctive story.
In amusement parks, one can come across several rides, water slides, roller coasters and a lot of other features. You can also have delicious food at the food courts in the amusement parks. All these are also available in theme parks.
When talking of theme parks, the most famous ones are Disney land and Disney world. These two theme parks are the largest parks in the world with the largest number of visitors.
It was after the development of the amusement parks that theme parks were established. The oldest known park is Bakken, Denmark, which has been traced to 1583.
