Difference Between Curation and Journalism

Curation vs Journalism

Curation and journalism are two very different things; they are two very different professions and require different educational backgrounds as well as different interests. They have been started to be treated as activities which are not very different from each other in the modern world. “Curation” originally meant the act of organizing, collecting, and maintaining especially artwork or artifacts collections.

It also involves managing, collecting, and administrating museums, galleries, and various institutions which are involved in preserving the cultural heritage. It deals with management and administration. It also meant an act of healing and curing, but presently many terms like “content curation,” “digital curation” have started being used which do not have any relation to art or artifacts. They deal with passing on the most valuable information or content from a variety of content available on the Web to the network. It deals with management and administration.

Journalism, on the other hand, refers to the practice or act of reporting after investigating certain events, trends, and issues to a wide audience at a particular time. Journalism involves experiencing, witnessing, writing, then reporting, getting the report edited, and then presenting or broadcasting the news along with video footage or photographs professionally and in the form of a well, setup business.

Just like curation has branched into many types, journalism is also of many different types like: photojournalism, business and government journalism, war journalism, etc. But the main goal of journalism is to cover vast aspects of society and report it to the audience. Today the face of journalism has undergone many changes due to the Internet. It is considered more vast in its aspects as journalism requires covering more vast subjects of society than curation. It not only involves collecting and organizing but also presenting the information through the media to a vast audience which is interested in many things and subjects at the same time and is not specifically interested in one thing.
