Difference Between Freelance and Contract
‘Freelance’ vs ‘Contract’
‘Freelance’ and ‘contract’ can be said to be a labour contract designed for a short period. In both ‘Freelance’ and ‘contract,’ the persons are self-employed and not permanent.
In contract work, the person agrees to work for a specific period (maybe one month or six months). When signing for contract work, the employee will be working as per the directions of the contractor. The contract person would be utilising the contractor’s facilities. Most of the time the contract workers are paid by the hour.
In ‘freelance,’ the persons have their own liberty. They create their own products, such as, works of art, pictures, websites, freelance essay-writing, software, and sell it. In a freelance position there is no one to control you as you are your own boss. But in contract work, you have to abide by the contract that you have signed with the contractor. When a contract worker is bound by time, there is no such thing in freelancing.
In terms of income, there is a stable income in a contract. However, one cannot expect stable income from freelance work. In a freelance position, you have the ownership of the work done, but in the case of a contract, you have no right to the ownership. Though income is not stable in a freelance position, one can make more money from freelancing if one is very efficient.
Another advantage of freelance work is that you will be able to do freelancing even if you are working with any firm or company. But once you are in a contract, you have no such option.
In the case of contract work, there is a possibility of becoming a permanent worker. But freelancing is always considered freelancing, and one cannot think of any permanent position.
