Difference Between Classic and Gourmet Knife

Ever since the beginning of time, cooking your own food is always a requirement. Cooking is the process of preparing food by applying heat, an activity that is only unique to humans, and also believed to have served a very important role in the evolution of man. Cooking techniques and ingredients are different among countries all over the world reflecting unique environmental, economic, and cultural traditions. The cooks themselves also have different skills and training.

Besides from varying degrees of cooking skills, the tools used for cooking also vary.
One particular cooking tool that is most prominent in every corner of the world is the knife. Knives come in different shapes and sizes which, in turn, also depend on their specific usage; whether they are intended for kitchen use or dining use. The main difference between a classic and gourmet knife is that their handles are different.

Wusthof, a knife-maker located in Solingen, Germany, is well-known for his knives. Two of his most famous knives are the Wusthof Classic and the Wusthof Gourmet, both available in sets of six and eight. Wusthof also sells shears, pocket and hunting knives, and other culinary accessories, although, just on a small scale to their main rivals.

Wusthof Classic

Wusthof’s top-of-the-line, high carbon-steel kitchen knives are reckoned to be the finest, or close to the finest, in every credible user rating. They are a bit heavy and balanced, but the grips vary by line. The comfort level may differ depending on the one holding the knife. Testers found the Classic’s handles to be thin. The Wusthof Classic’s handle is made of polypropylene riveted to the metal. The blade on the Classic is extremely resistant to stains.

Wusthof Gourmet

This is their signature product. The difference between stamped knives and forged knives lies in the thin sheet of steel from which the blades are cut. Stamped knives are lightweight but have poor quality. Therefore, Wusthof Gourmet knives are better and perform well.

  • Affordable.
  • Lightweight.

Cons

  • Lacks robustness.
  • Edges dull easily compared to forged knives.
