Of course, men and women are very different in many ways and similar in others. But, where are the differences and the similarities, and how can you make sense out of them? The society we live in has already set some guidelines about gender roles and how you see them, like how you expect men and women to dress, behave, talk, and present themselves. Talking about the differences between men and women has always been a sensitive topic. It seems everyone has strong opinions about the ways in which men and women do and don’t differ.

Men

Findings from several studies and research surveys suggest that men basically differ from their female counterparts in ways they express their feelings, their physical characteristics, their personal interests, and their viewpoints. The public sees different pressure points for men as they navigate their roles in society. Majorities say men go through a lot of pressure to support their family financially. From the very beginning, it’s a common belief that men are supposed to take the primary responsibility of protecting and supporting their family on the financial front. Majority of the professional sports such as baseball, football and soccer players at the major league are men.

Women

It’s a traditional belief that women are there to look after their home and to look after their children. The roles of women have changed now and their equal participation in all facets of society is a fundamental human right. Even the balance of the workforce has tipped toward women, who continue to occupy around half of the nation’s workforce. Women now dominate colleges and professional schools on every continent except Africa. The traditional mindset has changed; women now leave home and enter the workforce, creating domestic jobs for other women to fill.

Difference between Men and Women

  1. Physiology

    – This is one area where men and women differ significantly. Men are more muscular than women because they have proportionately more muscle mass, more bone mass, and lower body fat than women. Men have larger hearts and lungs than women, whereas women have larger kidneys, livers, and thyroid glands.

  2. Dress Sequence

    – Of course, there are science back differences between the two sexes that are too hard to deny. One of the main differences is the way men and women get dressed. They get dressed in a difference sequence. Most women get dressed from top to bottom and men usually go the other way. Men get dressed from bottom, putting jeans socks first followed by a shirt or a t-shirt.

  3. Nature

    – Studies suggest women are less inclined to take risks because they have always been thought of as the caregivers of the society. This is why they tend to be more worried about others. Men, on the other hand, are more rational and logical, willing to throw more caution to the wind. Women are more holistic, intuitive, and integrative.

  4. Sense of Direction

    – Well, believe it or not, men tend to have a better sense of direction. This years old gender cliché is officially backed up by science; the neuro scientists at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology have conducted studies that proved that males are better at tasks that require spatial awareness.

  5. Multitasking

    – If men have a better sense of direction, studies also suggest that women are better at multitasking than their male counterparts. But there are mixed opinions regarding the ability to multitask being gender dependent. New research proves that gender has no effect on a person’s ability to multitask.

  6. Personality

    – While the physiological differences are obvious, the question about the personality difference between men and women is a bit complicated and controversial. Studies suggest women have an edge over men on grounds of emotions, warmth, sensitivity, supportive, empathy, affection, and so on. Men are tend to be more aggressive, dominant, utilitarian, risk-prone, passionate, enthusiastic, confident, and have better sense of humor.

Summary

In a nutshell, the first thing to understand from the comparisons of men and women is that men and women are more alike than they are different, especially at each trait level. A substantial wage gap also exists, even when considering critical variables such as education, age, and length of employment. Going back, the media weekly wage for full-time employees in the United States was relatively more for men than women. But that gap is starting to close now, especially with women dominating half of the workforce as their male counterparts. Being men or women is central fact in all of our lives.

  1. Commendable, thank you. This seems to be an article rather about how the patriarchy sees the world in addition to the difference between men and women, and quite obviously written by a man. I’d like to challenge you to have it reviewed by the women’s studies division of your local university to just see what amendments they’d suggest.
