Difference Between iPhone and Nokia N97
iPhone vs Nokia N97
The release of the first iPhone onto the market marked a turning point in the mobile devices market, especially with mobile phones. Fueled by the ever increasing need for provisional mobile content, sophistication of telecommunication services and the need for mobile office accessibility, the iPhone was on track to set up the mobile phone market for a total revolution.
The iPhone was the first mobile phone with a complete touch interface (without a typical keyboard), and the original release was in June 2007. Subsequent releases featured the iPhone 3G and 3GS in July 2008 and June 2009 respectively, each with a set of more advanced features. The phone features a 3.5 inch LCD touch screen, with a scratch-resistant glass, responding to touch, proximity and ambient sensors.
The original and 3G model each feature a 2 megapixel camera that has geo-tagging features, while the 3GS has a 3 megapixel camera with VGA and geo-tagging, auto focus and white balance. For audio and output, it has two speakers at the top and bottom. The one at the top acts as the earpiece. It supports both audio and digital video, where users can watch live TV and movies on a widescreen. Music can be directly purchased from the iTunes online store and directly downloaded onto the phone. Unlike most phones, the iPhone uses an internal battery which cannot be replaced by the user, chargeable by syncing with a computer through a provided USB cable, or by directly using an AC adapter. The phone uses the iPhone operating system (iPhone OS 3.1.2).
Closely following in the iPhone’s footsteps, is the N97 Nokia from the Nokia Corporation (also in the category of ‘iPhone killer’ phones). It was released in the N-series range of the Nokia smart phones in December 2008. With a lot of hype already surrounding earlier released smart phones and the advances made in the wireless mobile world, the Nokia N97 mobile phone was surely not to disappoint in that field. The phone was designed to suit the ever changing needs of the hungry mobile phone users, and it pretty much carries many of the specs that you would expect in a Smartphone. Like all N-series phones, the N97 stresses the need for mobile internet browsing and multimedia support. The N97 has access to wireless networks through 3G or wireless LAN, 5 mega pixel camera, MP3 player with access to downloadable online music from the Nokia music store (not a standard feature), video player and GPS. Unlike the iPhone, the N97’s internal memory of 32GB can be topped up to 16GB of external memory using a memory card (microSD), and it has a fold-out screen in landscape shape with a keyboard. The screen is also an input touch screen. The N97 is powered by the Symbian OS.
Summary
1. The N97 has a foldable screen with a physical keyboard, while an iPhone does not have a physical keyboard.
2. The N97 has a replaceable battery, while the iPhone’s internal battery isn’t replaceable.
3. The iPhone is powered by the iPhone 3.1.2 operating system, while the N97 uses the Symbian operating system.
4. The N97 has extendable memory using an external microSD card, while the iPhone’s internal memory is not extendable.
