I drink both. Jim Beam when I don’t have much money, Jim Beam Black when I have a little more. When I can afford it, Maker’s Mark is just a better tasting bourbon to me. My palate is starting to discern the differences between corn/rye/wheat ratios and I just prefer Maker’s. As for higher rye, I prefer Wild Turkey 101.

    I drink them all neat.

Well said, I believe you are correct and my taste sounds identical to yours.

Next try for me will be Buffalo Trace. Have you had it?

Just bought and tried Buffalo Trace a few days ago and it’s delicious. BT has a full, complex flavor, perhaps not quite as sweet as Maker’s Mark, but definitely as pleasant. I drink bourbon (Scotch, too) over ice and pour it about 20 minutes before drinking. After 20 minutes, the ice melts enough to create a perfect drink for the next 20 to 30 minutes.

Is makers a smooth tasting bourbon though, or does it have a bite to it like Jack Daniels how is it compared to wild turkey?

I totally agree with you 100% about the taste- all but wild turkey. To me it just has too much of a bite or heat. It’s a higher proof, so that may be it. Markers is good for the $$.

Maker’s is the reason I started drinking Bourbon instead of scotch. I agree with Dean that Jim Bean is cheeper, but also softer. Jack Daniels is In the midle for me.

It is quite good! But a little pricey. Can’t imagine what life would be like if I actually liked scotch…

Maker’s Mark is a tad bit harsh to me…Jim Beam has a smoother taste!!! But they are both fine bourbons!!! But I prefer JB!!!

Hi. I drink all three brands. After 3 generous shoots of Jim Beam/ Jack Daniels/ or Makers Mark I am unable to distinguish any of them. There all good!!!

Discovering Buffalo Trace was my greatest find in a long time. It’s at a great cost/quality bourbon and always great to bring out for sipping or mixing. I’ve found a better bourbon or whiskey makes better mixed drinks as well. Try it!

My theory, any person that mixes good bourbon with anything besides ice & a tiny splash of water should be shot in the knees- period. Bourbon should be dipped neat or over ice.

Markers 46 is all you need , a few more dollars but well worth it. Been drinking bourbon many many years. A new brand around is litchfield bourbon , but must buy 10 year old, very good

“Moreover, Maker’s Mark comes in square bottles, unlike Jim Beam.”

Wrong. JB comes in square bottles, whereas the Makers Mark bottle is more of a rhomboid shape.

If you can’t identify the bottle shape, then your opinion of the contents is questionable.
