Difference Between American ginseng and Korean ginseng
American ginseng vs Korean ginseng
Ginseng is a widely used herb that boosts the energy levels in the body. American ginseng and Korean ginseng are the two main varieties of Ginseng herb. The ginseng herb that is commonly found in Korea and North Eastern China is known as Korean ginseng and those found in America and Canada are called as American ginseng.
The American ginseng is also known as Panax quinquefolius and the Korean ginseng is known as Panax ginseng.
As American Ginseng comes with a more cooling nature, it can be used during hot weather conditions. On the other hand as Korean Ginseng is warmer in nature, they are fit for colder conditions.
While the American ginseng is considered to be more relaxing and sedative, the Korean ginseng is considered to be invigorating and stimulating. When American ginseng is known to increase the “yin” energy, Korean Ginseng is known to increase “yang” energy.
Though American ginseng and Korean ginseng contains almost the same active ingredients called ginsenosides, they are different in their respective aspects. When the American ginseng comes rich in Rb1 group of ginsenosides, Korean Ginseng comes higher in the Rg1 group of ginsenosides.
As American Ginseng promotes ‘yin’ energy, it is used to cool down the body during fever or from hot climate. The American variant is also known to enhance the immune system and also helps with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. As Korean ginseng is known to promote ‘yang’ energy in the body, it helps in revitalising the natural heat of the body and also helps in the improvement of blood circulation.
Another difference that can be noticed between American ginseng and Korean ginseng is in its potency. While American ginseng comes with a mild ‘qi’ boosting effect, the Korean ginseng has a stronger effect.

I am mixed up shouldn’t you have yin and yang so is it good to mix American and Korean
I understand your logic, but the research I’ve done ALL report it unsafe to take both at the same time. They also state that ongoing consumption should not happen, but recommend taking either for a few months, then go through a cooling off phase for a few weeks. So, if you find you want to take both, I would will suggest switching from American to Korean after your cooling off period.
Is it safe to take Ginsing panax while taking a blood thinner
called Plavix?
Hey Robert
The thing about Chinese medicine is you are trying to create balance in the system
If the season is yin ( winter ) you boost with a yang herb.
If the season is yang ( summer ) you use a yin herb.
Also, herbal prescription is an entourage effect.
It’s about the combination, so certain drugs that contradict each other are not used together.
Korean in Autumn and winter, American in spring and summer is a simple way to look at it.
