Difference Between Huggies and Pampers
As the need for diapers in the world continues to rise, parents and guardians are often in the constant search for the best diapers for their children. Even with the availability of thousands of diaper brands globally, you will still find parents who are yet to find the best brand based on their needs. Among the most common diaper brands globally include Huggies and Pampers. The two are often pitted against each other in the search for the best diaper. In this article, we will look at the difference between the two diaper brands.
Why Huggies?
Owned by Kimberly-Clark, Huggies is a brand that deals with diapers, baby wipes and training pants. Introduced in the market in 1978, the brand replaced the Kimbies brand. Most parents preferring Huggies due to the availability of comfortable diapers for older babies not forgetting the stretchy material used which enables babies to crawl without any hindrances. Huggies diapers also have enough padding to protect babies from injuries that can result from sharp objects.
Among Huggies diaper products include:
- Little movers- This is designed for infants who can no longer use the Little Snugglers size 2
- Little Snugglers diaper- It was originally referred to as Supreme and formerly Gentle Care. It is used for infants and is also available for Preemies.

While the early diapers were heavy and bulky, they have now been improved to light yet functional products, to the fulfilment of children as well as adult users. This brand is mostly associated with newborn babies.
Here are the Pampers diaper products:
- Swaddlers, Baby Dry- This is recommended for newborn babies. They are manufactured with the softest material that is safe for delicate and sensitive skin. They also have a wetness indicator.
- Baby-Dry- These are recommended for bigger babies, new-borns as well as small toddlers. They are manufactured with three layers that come in handy in preventing leaks. Since they are breathable, they can be worn for up to 12 hours.

Differences between Huggies and Pampers
Manufacturer
While Huggies is manufactured by Kimberly-Clark, Pampers is manufactured by Proctor and Gamble.
Comfort
Huggies diapers are less comfortable since they are made with slick plastic material. On the other hand, Pampers diapers are more comfortable since they are made with fluffy and soft material.
Umbilical cord clearance
Huggies diapers have a better belly clearance on the umbilical cord cut-out. On the other hand, Pampers does not have a good belly clearance on the umbilical cord cut-out. However, it is still loose and does not irritate the umbilical cord.
Fastening
Huggies diapers are easier to rip off for a quick change since they are made with a plastic tab. On the other hand, the fastening tabs in Pampers are made with a Velcro-like feel hence the stronger hold which may take longer to rip off.
Absorbency
While Huggies diapers are manufactured with high-quality absorbent material, they are more prone to leaks. On the other hand, Pampers diapers have been proved to be more absorbent, hence preventing leaks.
Huggies vs. Pampers: Comparison Table
Summary of Huggies vs. Pampers
Huggies is a brand that specializes in training pants, diapers and baby wipes and was founded by Kimberly-Clark. It has comfortable diapers with a better belly clearance on the umbilical cord cut-out. This makes them more preferable in most newborn babies. They are also quick to rip off for a quick change since they are made with a plastic tab. On the other hand, Pampers is a brand that specializes in training pants, diapers and baby wipes. They are preferred since they are more comfortable since they are made with fluffy and soft material not forgetting their high absorbency nature. Which diaper to buy? Huggies or Pampers?
Both Huggies and Pampers are the titans in the diaper world. These are the most popular brands used by hospitals for new-borns and toddlers.
Both share several similarities and have few distinct features. Pampers cost an average of 24 cents to 32 cents per diaper, and Huggies diapers cost around 24 cents to 31 cents per diaper.
There is no definite winner, but parents say Pampers is softer and have extra absorbency. Huggies Little Movers seem to be liked by many parents of toddlers. These are bit larger-sized diapers that seem to have easy-open tabs, and wetness indicators make it easier to change a baby that might be on the move.
Both diapers are similar in terms of their functionality, and both of them work well for babies. However, Pampers obtains a higher score based on better absorbency and fewer leaks, and fewer babies develop rashes with Pampers than Huggies.
When choosing the best brand of diapers for your child, you should look into the diaper’s fit, the right absorbency, the design and style and the ease of use.
