Difference Between Gelatin and Jello
Jello, which is made from gelatin, has been a popular snack since way back and it is still consumed all over the world. It may be a favorite for many people. However, many may not know what or how jello is made. This leads to an interesting topic to understand the difference between gelatin and jello.
What is Gelatin?
This is a flavorless, colorless, and translucent super food which is derived from collagen. The collagen is obtained from animals’ body parts including bones, connective tissues, and skin. It is gummy when moist and brittle when dry, and is commonly used in in the food, cosmetic, pharmacology as well photographic industries. In the food industry, gelatin is used to make yogurts, ice creams, candy, dips, marshmallows, gelatin desserts not to mention gummy candy.
It is associated with many health benefits including weight loss, muscle and bone wellness, improving hair health, providing the body with essential minerals and amino acids and hormones regulation, just to name a few.
What is Jello?
Also referred to as jelly, jello is a food product prepared by boiling gelatin. It contains artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, and food coloring, not to mention sugar. For preparation, gelatin is dissolved in hot water, chilled and allowed to set. Other ingredients such as flavorings and sugar are then added. It is then refrigerated until served.
