Either of them is managed independently, hence has differences in terms of products, policies and even the scope of operation. 

 

What is Amazon?

Amazon is an e-commerce based technological company and is the most valuable company in the world. Among its major focus areas include e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. It was founded by Jeff Bezos on July 5 1994 and has expanded with a revenue of over $232 billion as per the year 2018. Among the services and products offered include Amazon studios, Amazon Prime, Amazon Fresh, Alexa, Kindle, Music Unlimited, Amazon studios, Amazon wireless, Fire TV and Echo, among others. Amazon also owns over 40 subsidiaries including Amazon Maritime, Audible.co, Brilliance Audio, Zappos, Goodreads, Twitch, Jingle and Whole Foods Market, just to name a few. 

 

What is Barnes and Noble?

Founded in 1873 by Charles Barnes, William Barnes, G. Clifford Noble and Leonard Riggio in New York, Barnes and Noble is the largest bookseller specifically in retail in the United States. It especially retails digital media, educational and content products, with over 680 retail stores in 50 states. These include music, toys, graphic novels, games, tablets, magazines, magazines, and newspapers, just to name a few. It is a publicly owned company with a revenue of US$4 billion. Among other products available at Barnes and Noble are Spark Notes and Nook.

Among the products and services provided by Amazon include Amazon studios, Amazon Prime, Amazon Fresh, Alexa, Kindle, Music Unlimited, Amazon studios, Amazon wireless, Fire TV and Echo. On the other hand, Barnes and Noble provides digital media, educational products such as music, toys, graphic novels, games, tablets, magazines, magazines, and newspapers.

While Amazon operates both retail stores and an e-commerce platform, Barnes and Noble operates retail stores.
