Difference Between Frappe and Latte

Coffee is one of the world’s most common beverages. Its many benefits, including but not limited to high levels of antioxidants, ability to lower risks of several serious diseases, increasing the energy levels, improving physical activity and lowering risks of certain types of cancers have seen it become a favorite drink for many people. It can also be consumed as a hot or a cold beverage, hence making it ideal for any kind of weather. While coffee seems simple, it has developed and led to different drink varieties, practices and names, such as frappe and latte. 

 

What is Frappe?

The term frappe is derived from a French word, frapper, meaning to chill. This is an iced or frozen drink made from ice cream, flavored syrup, and milk. Coffee may also be added to the drink. 

Different flavors can also be added to make drinks such as caramel frappe, chocolate frappe, Oreo frappe, and green tea frappe. 

The first frappe was made in the year 1957 in Greece. 

 

What is a Latte?

This is a beverage with a shot of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam. For people who are lactose intolerant, the milk can be replaced with a non-dairy option, such as oat, soy or almond milk.

A latte may be flavored with vanilla, hazelnut, cinnamon, raspberry, caramel, and peppermint. 

The term latte is short of the Italian name caffé latte, which means milk coffee.

  • The basic constituent of both is coffee
  • Both may contain milk

 

Differences between Frappe and Latte

  1. Ingredients in Frappe and Latte

While frappe contains ice cream, syrup, milk and coffee, a latte contains a shot of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam.

While a frappe is an iced drink, a latte can either be served a hot beverage or cold. 

  1. Place of origin

While Frappe originated from France, Latte originated from Italy.
