Differences Between Bed Bug Bites and Spider Bites
Bed Bug Bites vs Spider Bites
It’s very frustrating when you wake up one morning and you are already covered with insect bites. Since you’re on your bed sleeping, the first suspects would be bed bugs. But bed bugs may not be the ones really at fault. It might be the spiders. Spiders bite too, and they can also cause itchiness. To distinguish between bed bug bites and spider bites, read on and find out in this article.
Among the most common ways to determine whether you are bitten by a bed bug or a spider is by observing its bite locations. It is likely possible that you have bed bug bites if the bite’s locations are many and in the form of a cluster since there are more than one bed bugs in your bed. On the other hand, if you are bitten by a spider, the bite location would only be present in one area. Spiders don’t bite much going around tasting every part of your body.
When it comes to the diagnosis of bed bug bites and spider bites, it is more difficult to diagnose a spider bite. They say that a spider bite may be impossible to see. Spiders often do not leave their fang marks when they bite. To diagnose a spider bite, the physicians base their diagnosis more on the patient’s symptoms rather than seeing the actual bite. The symptoms of a spider bite are: itching, redness, swelling, and pain.
As for the bed bug bites, they are easier to diagnose. As we have mentioned earlier, bed bug bites are often many and in clusters. You will wake up having bed bug bites with the following symptoms of multiple but small welts on your skin, or the welts may be flat or raised. If the bites don’t appear in clusters, they may also be linear since bed bugs have the tendency to bite or feed on the same area more than once. When the bed bugs bite you, you will experience an itchy sensation. If you scratch them, you can develop an infection.
When you are bitten by a bed bug, you can treat yourself at home. Put a hot washcloth over the bitten area. It will help reduce the swelling and pain. If you can’t endure the itching, you can buy an over-the-counter antihistamine pill such as Benadryl. And the best way to prevent bed bugs from biting you is by keeping your house, especially your bedroom, clean. Clear out all the unnecessary things inside your bedroom. The bed bugs are attracted to crowded and dusty places. Before sleeping on your bed, always inspect your mattress.
If you are bitten by a spider, wash the area with soap and water. You can also apply an ice pack or wet compress over the affected area. If necessary, buy an over-the-counter antihistamine and pain medicines. Since some of the spider bites are deadly, seek medical treatment for children and adults showing severe symptoms.
