Difference Between MSM and Chondroitin

MSM vs Chondroitin

MSM and Chondroitin are natural compounds occurring in the joints. They are used for relieving joint pains and inflammation of the joints. Arthritis is a normal condition which is related these days commonly to aging, and many anti-inflammatory and non-steroidal drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen are prescribed for joint pains or arthritic pains. These medicines have many side effects, and three naturally occurring compounds; MSM, Chondroitin, and Glucosamine are usually prescribed for relieving the pain and slowing down the progression of arthritis without causing the side effects caused by other medicines. This type of “wear and tear” arthritis is called osteoarthritis.

Chondroitin
Chondroitin is found in the Chondroitin Sulphate form in the joints. It is a natural cartilage ingredient. The primary function of Chondroitin is to absorb water in order to keep the cartilage spongy and hydrated. Another important function of Chondroitin is to deactivate and slow the erosion of the cartilage. The erosion of cartilage takes place by certain enzymes. These enzymes erode the cartilage, and the cartilage loses its elasticity and fissuring appears on them. Osteoarthritis is responsible for diminishing the natural Chondroitin Sulphate in the cartilage which leads to pain and joint stiffness. Thus to reduce the pain and stiffness and to hydrate and keep the cartilage spongy, supplements of this natural compound are prescribed to help a patient. Chondroitin is prescribed either combined with another compound called Glucosamine, or it can be taken without Glucosamine in a tablet, liquid supplement, or capsule form. Chondroitin is recommended three times a day. The dosage of 1200 mg. is divided into 3 dosages. It has no toxicity problems which are sometimes associated with other compounds.

MSM
“MSM” stands for “Methylsulfonylmethane.” MSM is considered the main source of organic sulphur. The primary property of MSM is to make the walls of the cells permeable. When the cell walls become permeable, the toxins, unwanted materials, and free radicals are easily and efficiently removed or flushed out of the cells. Another property of MSM is to block parasites from attaching themselves to the lungs and digestive system’s mucous membranes and finally help in reducing inflammation. Reduction of the inflammation is the main reason why MSM is prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis. It is a natural anti-inflammatory and analgesic. When combined with Glucosamine, it helps in reducing disfiguring and inflammation within the joints which is the main characteristic of rheumatoid arthritis. It is also believed that other than just relieving the pain and inflammation, it also helps in removing toxins from joints which might lead to joint problems. An MSM dosage of 2,000 mg. is recommended divided into 3 dosages every day.

Summary:

1.“MSM” stands for “Methylsulfonylmethane”; Chondroitin is basically the Chondroitin Sulphate form in the joints.
2.MSM helps in controlling rheumatoid arthritis; Chondroitin helps in controlling osteoarthritis.
3.An MSM dosage of 2,000 mg. is recommended divided onto 3 dosages in a day;1200 mg. of Chondroitin is recommended per day divided into 3 dosages as well.
