Difference Between Capacity Building and Trust Building
Capacity Building vs Trust Building
Capacity building and trust building are two very different concepts though both are required for the efficient and effective functioning of an organization.
Capacity building
Capacity building is a concept which can be used in the context of many organizations like non-profit organizations working for the development of third-world nations or organizations working within their own country for a particular mission.
It can be defined as the ability of societies, institutions, or individuals to perform different functions, solve any problems that might arise, set objectives and achieve objectives in such a manner that the whole process can be sustained or maintained for a long period of time. Capacity building is also referred to as capacity development, and it describes different tasks of establishing institutional capacity as well as human capacity.
Capacity building takes place at all levels starting from the government level to villages in the interiors of a country. If we consider capacity building in reference to the third world and the non-profits working for their development, the tasks include training for the local communities in areas like agriculture, water and its usages, health and nutrition. It also requires establishing research centers, strengthening the local people and their governance, providing adequate staff for achieving the targets, etc. In case of any other non-profits, capacity building refers to taking the organization to a level where the operations, programs, finances, and organizational maturity have reached a level where the mission is efficiently and effectively fulfilled through leadership succession using efficient technology and engaging in collaboration with the local community.
Trust building
Trust building is a concept or method by which any organization or any two individuals can build a long-lasting, efficient relationship. It can be used in an organization, or it can be used in case of any individuals personally. Building trust helps in developing mutual respect; it helps in developing understanding, helps in developing empathy and openness and, most importantly, it helps in developing great communication within a team which is the key to an efficient, working environment.
There are some very important steps in building trust. Among other things, integrity is one of the most required essences of trust building; it should start from the very top level and move on to other levels. Keeping one’s word is necessary for the highest-ranking person to the youngest and the most junior. Communication is the next thing required in building trust. Communication helps in defining the values of an organization and describing the ways to reach the goals. Focusing on shared goals is another way of ensuring that the workforce works as a team and not as individuals. Personal gains are considered later. The first gains of the whole team are ensured. Thus, building trust is an important part of any workforce to achieve success.
Summary:
Capacity building can be defined as the ability of societies, institutions, or individuals to perform different functions, solve any problems that might arise, set objectives and achieve objectives in such a manner that the whole process can be sustained or maintained for a long period of time. Trust building refers to a method by which any organization or any two individuals can build a long-lasting, efficient relationship.
