Difference Between Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange
Wuthering Heights vs Thrushcross Grange
“Wuthering Heights” is a thrilling novel by Emily Brontё. Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange are two places depicted in the novel that illustrates two different moods. It is in these places that all the action in the novel takes place.
Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange have many differences, and they differ mainly in their appearance and moods. While Wuthering Heights depicts the mood of storm, the Thrushcross Grange depicts the mood of calm. It is the conflict between the calm and the storm that forms the plot of the novel.
When comparing the residents, it can be seen that Wuthering Heights is packed with the working class, and Thrushcross Grange has residents who belong to a higher strata in the social ladder. As said earlier, the two places have many differences in their appearance. Wuthering Heights has a surrounding that is depicted as dark and cold which reflects the darker side of life. As it reflects dark and cold, there is a feeling of a storm here. On the other hand, Thrushcross Grange is just the opposite of Wuthering Heights. It is depicted as brighter and warmer which reflects the brighter side of life. Thrushcross Grange is also the home to children which is not so with Wuthering Heights.
In the novel, Bronte has described Wuthering Heights as “having narrow windows deeply set in the wall, and the corners defended with large, jutting stones.” This similar description or attitude is reflected in Heathcliff who is shown as “having black eyes withdrawn so suspiciously under their brow.”
