Difference Between TKO and KO
TKO vs KO
Boxing, also known as pugilism, is a very popular combat sport. In a boxing match, two people compete with each other by using their fists. They fight until one of them is unable to go on or until the match is stopped due to injury to one or both fighters. The fighters must be of the same weight and are supervised by a referee.
The Sumerians were the first to engage in fist fights in the 3rd millennium BC by using their bare fists. Fist fighting with the use of gloves was first done on the islands of Crete and Sardinia in 1500-900 BC.
Today, boxing is practiced throughout the sport-loving world. It is done with gloves during a series of one to three-minute intervals or rounds. There are four ways to win a boxing match:
If an opponent breaks a rule and is disqualified, the other boxer wins the match.
If after an agreed number of rounds there is no stoppage of the fight, the winner is determined by the referee’s decision or by the judges’ scorecards.
If the opponent is knocked out (KO) and is unable to get up before the referee counts ten seconds, the other boxer wins by a knockout (KO).
If the opponent is injured during the fight and is unable to go on, it is considered a technical knockout (TKO) and the other boxer wins.
A win by a knockout means that the winner won by causing his opponent to become unconscious and unable to rise within the ten seconds that the referee is counting. His opponent is unable to get up and is not ready to defend himself.
Some boxing organizations use the “three times down,” wherein a boxer loses a fight if he is knocked down three times in the same round. This happens if the boxer goes down to one knee after being hit.
A technical knockout win, on the other hand, means that the fight is stopped because the loser will get more hurt if the fight is continued. He is still conscious but is doing nothing or very little to defend himself or to fight.
Summary:
1.A knockout or KO is a win wherein the opponent is unable to get up before the referee counts to ten while a technical knockout or TKO is a win wherein the fight is stopped because the opponent is unable to go on.
2.A knockout is when the opponent is rendered unconscious and is not ready to get up and defend himself while a technical knockout is when the opponent is deemed to be very injured and cannot go on and will certainly hurt himself more if allowed to continue to fight.
3.If a boxer also gets knocked down, meaning he goes down on one knee, three times during a round, it is considered to be a knockout by some boxing organizations while a technical knockout usually happens when the other fighter is unable to protect himself or fight back.
