Difference Between Microsoft PowerPoint and Apple Keynote

Microsoft PowerPoint vs Apple Keynote

Computers have changed the way our world works. This is especially visible in the workplace where seminars and presentations are a large focus. Whereas presentations were previously made using hand-drawn or mechanically typeset slides, blackboards, and whiteboards, today presentation graphics programs are the most widely used.

Presentation graphics programs or presentation programs are developed to help both the speaker and participants convey and understand ideas easily and more effectively. They use computer software to present ideas and graphics.

There are several presentation programs available; the most notable are Corel Presentations, Prezi, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Apple Keynote. The last two are the most popular today and, although they both have the same objective, they have different features.

Microsoft PowerPoint or PowerPoint is a presentation program developed by Microsoft Corporation. It runs on Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS X operating systems. It was first released as Presenter but was later named PowerPoint due to trademark problems. The first presentations were linear; then a non-linear and movie-like style was adapted. In PowerPoint 2000, a clipboard that holds multiple objects was introduced. The presentations have a number of slides that contain graphics, text, movies, and other objects.

PowerPoint presentations can be printed, displayed on a computer, or projected on a video projector at the command of the presenter. Custom animations control the entrance, emphasis, exit, and transitions of the slides. It is easy to use and allows users to create small story boards with animated pictures. It is also very useful especially in the field of education where learners are able to retain more information than with traditional presentation methods.

Apple Keynote, on the other hand, is a presentation program software developed by Apple Inc. as part of its iWork suite. It is HD compatible and features group calling, 3D charts and transitions, multi-column text boxes, auto bullets, image adjustments, and free-form masking tools.

Here are some of its features:

Allows users to keep the consistency of colors and fonts in charts, graphs, and tables.
Provides 3D slide transitions that fade from one slide to the next.
Has dual monitor support that allows users to see notes from their laptop while showing the presentation on another screen.
Can support QuickTime video format in slideshows.
Exports to iDVD, Powerpoint, PDF, QuickTime, Flash, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and HTML. It provides format conversion to these applications.

Keynote tools are easy to use and can be used with an iPOd touch or iPhone which can let you remotely control the presentation. Keynote presentations can also be shared even with people who are using Mac or PC as well as iWork or Microsoft.

1.Microsoft PowerPoint or PowerPoint is a presentation program developed by Microsoft Corporation while Apple 2.Keynote is a presentation program software developed by Apple, Inc.
