Difference Between Samsung Galaxy Tab and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7100)

Samsung Galaxy Tab vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7100)

It is common for companies to update their products with better specs while maintaining most of the features. Rather than doing this with the Galaxy Tab, Samsung decided to release the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The main difference between the Tab and the Tab 10.1 is size as the latter is significantly larger and is almost double the weight of the former. The change in size is due to the Tab 10.1 employing a larger display. The larger display of the Tab 10.1 also has an increased resolution of 1280×800 so you would not have any problems with sites extending below the screen when it doesn’t have to.

Aside from the bigger and better screen, Samsung also decided to employ a dual core processor for better processing and smoother experience. It also brings the Tab 10.1 up to par with the latest tablets that are also employing dual core processors. The Tab has a single core processor clocked at 1Ghz, which at the time of its release, was competitive with its contemporaries.

Samsung also went ahead and improved the camera of the Tab 10.1. Instead of the 3MP main camera, which is lower than what you would find in most smartphones, and the 1.3MP secondary camera, the Tab 10.1 has an 8MP main camera and a 2MP secondary camera. The great leap in resolution of the main camera is good news for those who like taking pictures. It doesn’t hurt that the Tab 10.1 can also take videos at a 1080p resolution rather than the 720p resolution maximum of the Tab. Although it is unlikely that the increase in resolution in the secondary camera would affect video quality during video calls, it can help when taking vanity shots.

As the new improvements can suck more power, especially the screen and the dual core processor, the Tab 10.1 has a bigger battery which also contributed to the increase in weight. The Tab 10.1 has over 50% more battery capacity than the Tab so you should not worry about running out of juice in the middle of the day.

Lastly, there is a difference between the OS that is used by the two. Although both devices use Android, the Tab has the older version 2.2 (Froyo) while the Tab 10.1 has version 3.0 (Honeycomb). The latter is optimized for tablet use so it should be able to perform better. It is not known if the Tab would get a Honeycomb update but an update to Gingerbread is expected.

Summary:

1.The Tab 10.1 is bigger and heavier than the Tab.
2.The Tab 10.1 has a bigger screen and increased resolution compared to the Tab.
3.The Tab 10.1 has a dual core processor while the Tab has a single core processor.
4.The Tab 10.1 has better cameras than the Tab.
5.The Tab 10.1 has a bigger battery than the Tab.
6.The Tab 10.1 uses Honeycomb while the Tab has Froyo.
