Difference Between All Season and Winter Tire
Driving in the snow is different from driving in other environments. As such the tyres used in vehicles for winter driving is different when compared to the tyres in vehicles used for other seasons.
The designs of the two tyres are entirely different. Unlike the all season tyres, the winter tyres are designed for better control and safety in snow, ice and water. Some people may think that the all season tyre could deliver the same safety as that of the winter tyres in cold conditions but it is not so.
First of all, let us look at the treads of all season tyres and winter tyres. The winter tyres come with large space in the treads that helps the tyre for digging deep into the snow and also for better grip in the snow and ice. On the other hand, all season tyres do not have large space in the treads. The treads are closely spaced. Unlike the all season tyres, the winter tyres have special lugs.
Another difference that can be noticed between winter tyre and all season tyres is that the former one comes in round casing designs that give a better traction. The all season tyres do not come with these features.
While the winter tyres have soft studs, the all season tyres do not have any studs. Most of the winter tyres are made up of silica-based and micro pore compounds, which is beneficial for moving in the snow and ice. This silica based and micro pore compound is not suited for all season tyres.
