Difference Between Nokia N8 and Sony Vivaz Pro
The main difference between the Nokia N8 and the Sony Vivaz Pro is the latter’s hardware QWERTY keyboard hidden behind the screen. It slides to the left and can be used in landscape mode for much faster data entry than when using the on-screen keyboard. The N8 doesn’t have a hardware keyboard and is fully reliant on its touch screen display for all input. The N8 can also provide a bigger on-screen keyboard in landscape mode but it can’t replicate the tactile feedback of the real thing.
In terms of size and shape, the Vivaz Pro is certainly lighter and smaller in both height and width while being slightly thicker than the N8. This is quite unusual as most sliders tend to be bigger than non-sliders. Part of the size difference can be attributed to the screen as the N8 has a bigger 3.5inch screen compared to the 3.2 inch screen of the Vivaz Pro. Another major difference between the two is the amount of internal memory that each phone has. While the N8 packs 16GB of internal memory, the Vivaz Pro only has 75MB. Sure, the Vivaz Pro may ship with an 8GB memory card in the box but when you need to expand, you need to swap it for a 16GB card; the maximum that the Vivaz Pro can accommodate. That just equals the internal memory of the N8, which can also accommodate microSD cards of up to 32GB capacity for a total of 48GB of storage.
An aspect where the Vivaz Pro cannot compete with the N8 is the camera. The Vivaz Pro has a 5 megapixel camera that is also capable of taking 720p video at 24fps. On the other hand, the 12 megapixel camera of the N8 takes far superior photos; partly because of its autofocus feature and Carl Zeiss optics. The N8 is also capable of taking 720p videos but at 30fps. 30fps is much better for online videos as it can be easily converted to 15fps, which is the norm for online videos. With 24fps, the algorithm is more complex and more quality loss is expected.
Lastly, the Vivaz Pro has the older Symbian S60 operating system while the N8 has the much newer Symbian^3. The S60 is tried and tested but is almost ancient when compared to many of the newer operating systems for smartphones. Symbian^3 is the replacement of S60 and offers many performance advantages.
