People nowadays have a new way of learning new information. Aside from plainly reading books, journals and other reading materials, the modern learners now have another option ‘“ learning through digital or audio books. These books are therefore played while the learner simply listens to the audio content. In this connection, there are two general classifications of these audio books namely the abridged and the other being the unabridged book.

Content-wise, the unabridged book is the audio book having the most content. It is the full version anyway. The abridged version only has the most important excerpts that retain the most salient points that every learner needs to know. In short, the abridged version skips the boring entries that are not that significant. Listening to any type of audio book would usually end up with the same type of learning nonetheless because the gist of the entire book is still captured in the abridged version.

Because of the short cut version of abridged audio books, readers who just want to learn for recreational purposes are more suited to listen to abridged versions. They will be led directly to the most compelling portions of the text. On the contrary, unabridged books are best for students who are required to finish an entire length of passage for educational purposes.

Due to the more complete nature of unabridged books, they often cost more than half the price of abridged books. Moreover, abridged books demand less time from the learner because it is a shorter version of the unabridged material. The unabridged books enable readers or listeners to absorb every word of the text. In audio books both types are advantageous for the learner because the two don’t strain the eyes like what the standard reading of printed texts does.

With the advent of modern technology, learners have been eyeing better options on how to learn about new concepts and subjects. In this regard, audio books both the unabridged and the abridged versions are becoming handy. In summary:

1. Unabridged books are more complete (longer) in content compared to the abridged books having simpler (shorter) content.

2. Unabridged books are best for recreational type of readers while the abridged books are best for students.

3. Unabridged books practically cost more than abridged books.

4. Unabridged books are generally more boring than abridged versions because of their lengthy nature.

5. Unabridged books are learned longer because it requires more time to finish compared to abridged versions.
